History

The Bereavement Center opened its doors in 1995, through the efforts of Jansen Memorial Hospice and The Junior League of Bronxville. The staff at Jansen saw the need for a community bereavement program in Westchester County, with a special program for children. It was because of their vision and leadership that The Bereavement Center began.

The Bereavement Center is a program of Lawrence Community Health Services, located in Scarsdale, New York, about 30 miles north of New York City.  In addition to The Bereavement Center, Lawrence Community Health Services includes Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care and Lawrence Home Care of Westchester, and operates in affiliation with NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital and the New York-Presbyterian Regional Healthcare Network.

Since our inception in 1995, our programs have increasingly grown as we have continued to respond to the needs we have seen in the community.  Our belief and mission statements will guide us forward as we remain responsive and open to new challenges and ideas.
