A Safe Environment for Grieving Outside the Home
The School Outreach program evolved from our Tree House program, bringing the services provided by the Bereavement Center directly to the schools. We offer grief support to students as well as educating school communities about the nature of grief for children and teens, including their unique needs and the many ways that adults can support them.
The presence of caring adults in children's lives after a death is extremely important and often underestimated. Children experience a disruption in their home lives after a death, and the familiar and consistent school environment may be a place where they feel safe and supported. School personnel have the opportunity to make a big difference in the lives of grieving children, but often do not know how. The Bereavement Center offers education, guidance and support to school professionals in dealing with issues of loss and grief among their students.
We train and assist staff to organize and facilitate bereavement groups in a school setting; we also offer consultations and presentations to the school community, including administration, guidance staff, teachers, students, and parents.
We can also provide:
- Resource Materials
- Exercises and educational handouts
- Curriculum suggestions
- Book and video library
